Washington Quarters 1953-1957

This is Page 7 of the Washington Quarter Dollars value trend study, reporting on 1953-57 quarters. In total, there are nine pages in the study. Retail price trends over a long period of time for grades F-12 to PF-67 of Washington Quarters 1932-64 and 1975-76 are listed.

The popularity of Washington Quarter Dollars soared the release of the Statehood Quarters in 1999. For many years prior to that, even upper grade examples of common date silver quarters garnered little respect.

With the large influx of new Washington Quarter collectors, its amazing to see how the top quality material has multiplied in value. Because one or two points on the grading scale is critical, be sure you buy only from a seller of good reputation. Obtaining an example that's also been certified by one of the leading grading companies (PCGS, NGC, ICG, ANACS) is a smart move, too. Just watch the bidding frenzy when you decide to resell a 1954-D graded MS-67 by PCGS.

Numismatists will quickly tell you there are really only two Washington Quarter key dates in lower grades to look for. They are the 1932-D and the 1932-S. Every date in the Washington Quarter series was produced by the millions, with the exception of this pair. Both have a mintage of just over 400,000, making them by far the rarest in the set. There are some varieties (e.g. 1937 double die) that are assuredly scarce, but are of unknown quantity and upside potential. The surest way a buyer can add to his/her Washington Quarter collection coins destined to rise in value is prioritize the acquisition of a properly graded 1932-D and 1932-S.

When the competition was held in 1931 to select the George Washington Quarter design, many experts felt the wrong artist was awarded the prize.
