    <title>Rare American Coins Database Updated for May</title>

    <description>The sales records of rare coins for May 2009 have been logged into the database. Leading the charge in May was an 1856-O $20 Double Eagle, Var 1, graded MS-63 PCGS. It is the finest known example of this rare date. The $1.438 million selling price was the most ever paid for a coin produced by the New Orleans Mint.  Coming in 2nd place for the month was a 1797 $10 Capped Bust Eagle with small eagle, grading MS-63 NGC. It sold for $322,000. 3rd place went to a 1796 $2.50 Capped Bust Quarter Eagle with stars, described as a Premium Quality specimen. The buyer had to cough up $253,000 to take it home.</description>
