Franklin Half Dollars (1948-1963)

Franklin Half Dollars were coined from 1948 to 1963. There were no plans to terminate the Franklins after only 15 years, but the assassination of President John Kennedy in 1963 and the introduction of a new half dollar in his memory quickly shoved the Franklin Half Dollar aside.

Because their supply is abundant, in most cases the Franklin Half Dollar coin value is largely driven by the price of silver, as it contains .362 oz of the metal.

Conversely, some top quality Franklin Half Dollars, especially those displaying Full Bell Lines (abbreviated FBL), are quite rare and have a huge collectible value attached to them.
