The Capped Head Half Eagle first appeared in 1813. Its last year of production was 1834. There were some years in this time span when no half eagles were issued.

This series is home to some of the most valuable coins in US numismatics. It may be hard to find a genuine specimen available for less than $5000. Some dates command six figure sums. The 1822 Capped Head Half Eagle is worth over $1 million.
